I look forward to 4th of July every year. The BBQ’s, the fireworks, the friends and family, but all of this really translates into celebrating the birth of our amazing country. What better way to honor our forefathers and this country than incorporating the colors of our flag into..well, everything!
Yep, that’s right! The red, the white, and the blue. This sangria is not only beautiful to look at, but incredibly refreshing, light, and sweet. Take caution, though, this stuff will get ya! It tastes so good, it’s easy to drink two, four, or ten glasses. And that never ends up too well.
At least it’s a healthier drink alternative. I dont know about the rest of you, but I like to fill up on the cheese burgers, baked beans, corn, pulled pork, hot dogs, cupcakes, potato salad, coleslaw….well, you get the point.
Sweet, fresh, summer berries, crisp white wine, and a sweet, bubbly ginger ale. What a gorgeous (and wicked) combination it is!
Red, White, and Blue Sangria
Makes 1 Pitcher
What You’ll Need:
+ 2 bottles white wine (I used Sauvignon blanc)
+ the juice of one lemon
+ 1 cup chilled ginger ale
+ 1/2 cup strawberry vodka (optional)
+ 1/2 cup strawberries, sliced
+ 1/2 cup blueberries (frozen, to help keep the drink cold)
+ bunch fresh mint leaves
Add the strawberries, blueberries, and mint leaves to the bottom of a pitcher. Add the lemon juice, white wine, and vodka (if using). Top with ginger ale, stir, and serve immediately.
**Note: You may want to have some simple syrup on hand for those who like sweeter drinks. Combine 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir, and simmer until the sugar is dissolved.
I like to store mine in a squeezeable container so people can add some into their drinks as needed.
